Sleep Apnea
Snoring is more than just a nuisance. It’s a major health concern. If you snore uncontrollably then you need to seek medical advice.
What is snoring?
When you sleep at night, all of the muscles in your body relax. During the day, you effortlessly breath in oxygen through your mouth and nose, but at night, the muscles in the back of your mouth and throat relax, and the result is that your air passages are more constricted. As you breath in air at night, there’s less open real estate in your airways. When oxygen flows through your throat, the soft palate, tongue and uvula all vibrate against each other. The result is the unpopular snoring sound.
Stop snoring or sleep on the sofa, at a friend’s house, in another city!
Okay, it may not be that bad, but it certainly could be.
If you love your partner, help him to stop snoring
How do you know if you snore? Think about it. You snore when you’re asleep. When you’re asleep you don’t have a clue what you’re doing. So how do you know if you snore? Certainly the person in the bed beside you, unless you sleep alone, knows if you snore or not. And most often they’ll let you know with an elbow to the head or a knee to the ribs. And then you wake up suddenly thinking that either the house has been robbed or you’ve just had an accident. The culprit in the meantime goes back to sleep.
Does anyone in your family have a snoring problem?
I have finally found a cure. About two years ago I started to snore. It got to the point that my soul mate, wife and lover of over 36 years had to leave the room and sleep on the couch. I also had sleep apnea. I would stop breathing and my wife stayed awake to make sure I would start breathing again. In summary she wasn’t getting much sleep at night, and I wasn’t getting much quality sleep either. Either Gila (my wife) was shaking me to get me to breath or I was waking myself up with the noise.
The effects of chronic snoring are well documented. These include sleep deprivation and disturbed sleep patterns (for snorer or partner) but also extend into non-physical realms, such as causing feelings of social embarrassment and inducing relationship difficulties . The effects of heavy snoring can be far reaching indeed. It should therefore come as no surprise that every day thousands of people search for methods to help them stop snoring.
Snoring is not funny. An estimated 45% occasionally snore and 25% or so do it every time they sleep. For some, it’s a relatively quiet and unnoticeable noise that doesn’t affect their life at all, but for many it’s a serious issue that causes concern.
Smoking is a big reason for a number of serious health conditions, lung cancer, as well as other forms of cancer, and heart disease, just to name a few. However, what you may not have realized is that it is also one of the causes of snoring.
Smoking causing swelling in the mucous membranes of the nose and the tissues of the throat, as well as damaging the small vessels of the lungs by blocking them, causing snoring as well as a number of other problems.
